New York Times has an interesting article (link) about imaging individual specimens and whole shelves of insects at the Berlin Museum of Natural History.  The video does a good job of demonstrating an automated 'focus stacking' system, where small specimens are imaged by taking many photos while gradually walking the small depth-of-field so an 'in-focus' pictures has been taken of each part of the specimen.  Software then combines images to produce a clear final image. Good video, and some very cool images!

My research characterizing the impact of large electrode array implants on feline cortex using high resolution MRI (9.4 Tesla!) is being presented in Chicago at the 2015 SfN conference by my former postdoc co-adviser Prof. John Morley.  Other authors are Scientia Prof. Nigel Lovell (my co-adviser at UNSW) and researcher Dr. Andre Bongers.

Title is '
Assessment of tissue using high resolution MRI following intracortical multi-shank microelectrode array implantation'. Poster session is 'Brain Machine Interface: Methods and Technology' starting at 1pm on Tuesday the 20th of Oct.

I shared research images for use in event material at the '2015 QB3 Awards' in San Francisco. The QB3 ('quantitative biosciences') consortium supports biotech research and commercialization in California.  I am happy to have had the opportunity to help Kaspar Mossman and the QB3 team, and looking forward to attending the event on Oct. 27th at the California Academy of Sciences!
